A Letter From Sharon

For weeks I assumed she simply had a better wardrobe than the rest of us.

On the woman in my Tuesday walking group who always looks put together, and the cardigan I eventually had to ask her about.

There is a woman in my Tuesday walking group who always looks put together, even on those cool Vermont mornings when the rest of us are still deciding whether we brought the right layer.

For weeks I assumed she just had a better wardrobe than the rest of us. Then I noticed it was the same knitted cardigan, in different colours, over and over. So I asked her, plainly, where she found it.

She laughed and told me about Nell, Nora & Nina, a little boutique in Stowe that has been dressing women for thirty-nine years.

I read their story when I got home. They grew up around maple trees, family farms and country roads, learning to knit and make things by hand. And after all these years, they still seem rather particular about what makes a good knit.
